Renel Solomon

Fast forward to 2016. Serendipitously, it was my turn to attend my school’s pre-interview dinner for minority applicants. My friend from Morehouse College, Matthew Ellis, was staying with me because he was interviewing for a potential admission to my school. We arrived at Uno’s Pizza and I surveyed the scene in the parlor. One individual stood out…Strikingly beautiful with a regal presence, and yes, with deeply rich melanin. I was enraptured. Thankfully, she sat next to me at the dinner table. We struck up a conversation and eventually the dinner finished. On our way back to my apartment, I asked Matt if he had noticed her (he had lol). She interviewed the next day, and I reached out to my classmate, Kara Cromwell, for her to get the details on this angelic woman. Once I found out she was single and potentially interested, I reached out to her after her interview.

One thing led to another, and we eventually would FaceTime for hours every night. Finally, I asked if I could come visit her in North Carolina. She allowed me to come, and we reunited in person. She planned the entire weekend and I remember thinking, “I have found my wife”. I sent those words to another friend from Morehouse, Kevin Tchokouani. When I arrived back to Ohio, I debriefed the weekend with my classmates Naa Akawa, Peace, Salman, Gavy, and Erin. I told them that it was as if “God himself sent down this chocolate goddess to me”. Literally. My prayers from middle school had been answered. The person I had envisioned had materialized.

Since that time, Sherifat Adebusola Ademola has captured my soul.  Despite numerous challenges and the pain of long distance, we persisted and are set to embark on God’s heavenly plan–marriage. I am grateful to her parents and sisters for allowing me to experience such an astonishingly beautiful woman.

His Version

In 2016, I was in Dayton, Ohio trying to focus on completing my studies. To be honest, I was not focused on finding a potential wife and life partner. I had envisioned a specific woman, and after spending the prior two years in the midwest, I had resigned to my belief that such a woman did not exist within my vicinity. I knew she existed, but did not believe she would be in Ohio.

Let me back up. As far back as middle school, I remember specifically praying for Jesus, my Lord and Savior, to help me find a “beautiful woman of God”. I would spend the ensuing high school and collegiate years viewing romantic interests through this lens, but no one ever matched the picture I had envisioned in my mind. I was oddly patient and disciplined, (surprisingly so, as I would not describe myself as a particularly patient or disciplined individual) and took caution to  avoid becoming entangled in a high number of romantic escapades. I believed my wife would come.
